About Me
The Professional Side
Hi. I’m Kristen. I’ve been in private practice for 16 years. I am dually-licensed in the state of Michigan. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT). LMFT’s are the specialists people look for when they need relationship help.
I love working with people. I didn’t realize it growing up but my family was a mixture of love and dedication, and malignant disrespect if you can imagine those two things going together. As a result, I’ve made it my life’s mission to understand what disrespectful behavior looks like, and how to stop it. I’ve sought respectful solutions, and boundaries and longed to create a life and relationship of genuineness and integrity. I’m really proud to say that I have done just that.
I chose counseling as a profession because I wanted to learn everything I could about relationships, how they work, and how they don’t. I was on a mission to discover respect and functionality, although that became evident to me over the years.
I completed undergrad at Eastern Michigan University at an accelerated pace. I graduated with a Masters in Counseling from Oakland University in 2008 along with a Professional Specialization in Couples and Family Therapy (post-graduate level work). I completed over 400 hours of supervisory experience working with clients as I obtained my LPC and LMFT licenses in Michigan. I went straight from school in 2008 into private practice and built a successful and thriving therapy practice. I now enjoy working with clients all over Michigan.
During my training, I learned so much about life, love, boundaries, and self-respect. I love helping others learn to value themselves and get what they want in life.
I feel incredibly lucky to have chosen this profession, and have spent the better part of two decades learning and counseling others. I love working with people, and they say they love working with me.
The Personal Side
Ever since I was little, I knew I wanted one partner to share my life with. I loved friendship and couldn’t imagine anything better than having a husband who was my best friend. I’ve been really lucky to find this in my lifetime.
Marriage is hard work. We have both had to work diligently over the years to learn how to communicate, respectfully problem-solve, and change what we do to get a better response from each other. It’s definitely one of those “reap what you sow” cases of hard work, dedication, and commitment. We truly love and like each other.
When I’m not counseling, I love spending quality time with my family and travelling. Travelling is refreshing. It helps continuously grow my perspectives about people and life. Differences teach me so much about what works, and invites growth.
Scuba diving is, by far, my favorite hobby outside of learning about people and the human mind. To explore the world beyond the human rhelm is my second fascination.
